T.J. Maxx Credit Cards Alternatives

T.J. Maxx has two credit cards that their customers can apply for - the T.J. Maxx MasterCard and the TJX Rewards credit card. The MasterCard is a traditional credit card that can be used anywhere, while the TJX Rewards card is a store charge card. Both TJ Maxx credit cards though are part of the same rewards program in which members earn points as they shop, and then redeem those points for merchandise.

TJX Rewards® Credit Cards

The T.J. Maxx discount designer clothing chain, founded in 1976, has nearly 2,700 stores worldwide, with nearly 1,000 of them in the U.S. They carry clothing and housewares, which are typically priced at 20% to 60% cheaper than other retailers. Merchandise includes clothing for men, women, children, and infants, as well as home goods like rugs, linens, and kitchen utensils.

T.J. Maxx offers two branded credit cards - the TJX Rewards Credit Card, which is basically a store charge card, and the TJX Rewards Platinum MasterCard, issued by GE Capital Retail Bank, which can be used anywhere that accepts MasterCard. The TJ Maxx Visa card is no longer available.

Consumers can apply for a TJ Maxx credit card in the store or online. You will need a fair or good credit rating to be approved. The TJX Rewards credit card, is basically a charge card, which can be used in TJ Maxx as well as its sister stores - Marshalls and Homegoods. Members earn 5 points for every dollar spent at any these three stores. They also get 10% off their first purchase as a sign-on bonus.

The TJX Rewards Platinum MasterCard offers those same rewards and bonus, as well 1 point per dollar for everyday purchases. Since it is also a traditional MasterCard members can use this TJMaxx credit card to not only shop wherever they want, but to get cash advances at ATM's. They can also access specific MasterCard programs, including their travel insurance/assistance, extended warranty, and purchase assurance programs.

Regardless of which TJMaxx credit card you have, the redemption is the same - for every 1,000 points you accumulate you receive a $10 rewards certificate, which can be used in the store or online to purchase merchandise. They work the same way a coupon or a gift card would be used, simply present them at checkout.

There is no limit to how many points you can earn with your TJMaxx credit cards. You would need to spend $200 at TJ Maxx, Marshalls or Homegoods to earn your first $10 reward. If you carry the TJ Maxx Mastercard every dollar you spend elsewhere will also help you build points toward your next reward. There is no annual fee for either of the TJMaxx credit cards.
