Rewards credit cards - the best cards to look out for in 2011

By on

If you are one of those fortunate few to have survived the recession, and have managed to qualify for a card, then this is the best time to sign up for a fresh card.

Card issuers are all out to woo customers and are offering some of the best deals - from airline tickets to bonuses etc., just for signing up for their cards and making the first purchase.

Rewards are always welcome at any point in time. Amongst some of the shoppers that were interviewed at a shopping mall in Mason Ohio, one consumer claimed that he simply loved his American Express Delta Skymiles card as it has given him and his wife a number of free vacations.

He also added that he went to Hawaii with his wife as they got free flight tickets and they managed to get a free stay as they also had timeshare.

Another couple stated that they preferred the cashback cards as they managed to put back $250 into their accounts because of that.

For some others, the top choice is the store rewards card. This is especially important if you go to the stores very often. It is a nice feeling when people at the store recognize this and give freebies.

When you make a comparison of the rewards cards such as store rewards, air miles, cashback etc., airline cards still manage to top the list. However, the consumer reports magazine claims that it depends entirely on what you would prefer. Airline points somehow seem to have the best in terms of value. Some of the worst in terms of value are merchandise that is offered in the catalogs such as laptops and TVs, since most of them are grossly overpriced.

However, there are a number of cards that offer great signup bonuses and amongst the top picks are:

Southwest Airlines Visa card – This card offers 50,000 bonus points as soon as you start spending on the card.

Chase United Airlines card – This card offers 25,000 miles on your first purchase.

Chase Sapphire card – This card offers$625 worth of airfare after your initial spend of $3,000.

Chase Freedom – This card offers $200 cashback after you spend the first initial $500.

Capitol One Venture – This card offers $250 worth of airfare after you spend your first $1,000.

After a year or two there are some of the top picks according to the Consumer Reports Magazine such as the American Express Blue, American Express Delta Skymiles Card, Chase Freedom, Capital One venture etc.
