Paypass contactless payments from mastercard introduced by coulomb technologies

19The new ChargePoint Network charging station was introduced by Coulomb Technologies, which is a leader in EV charging station infrastructure. This is for electric plug in vehicles which accept PayPass contactless payments from MasterCard. This allows EV drivers from the Bay Area to pay for charging their electric cars as well as for parking conveniently. They can do so by tapping the PayPass enabled MasterCard on a reader designed and equipped by Uniform Industrial Corporation to read the card.

The unveiling of the first ChargePoint installation to accept PayPass will be done at a press conference. The distinguished guests present at the ceremony include the mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom and the CEO of Coulomb Technologies, Richard Lowenthai amongst many others. According to Gavun, accepting the PayPass MasterCard payments supports the commitment of the company to offer greater flexibility to EV drivers. The CEO also said that the company is pleased to allow everyone to make use of ChargePoint stations providing convenience in the way payments are made for charging and parking, San Francisco is the first city to get ChargePoint installed for the share program between city cars and fleet. The contactless payment system is another innovation through which the city is leading the way.

More than 850 stations worldwide of ChargePoint have been transferred by Coulomb. There are installations of the stations in 14 Bay Area cities, including Walnut Creek, San Jose and San Francisco. Bay Area is being seen as the focal point of usage of electric vehicles as well as development if infrastructure. EV owners and municipal fleet drivers have hailed the introduction of the PayPass system. These are enthusiasts who choose to rent or own plug in vehicles from car sharing groups and would be able to make quick payments at the charging stations. This is as part of the commitment of San Francisco city to make the Bay Area region the epicentre of the electronic vehicle industry, boosting the green economy concept. According to the Mayor, the partnership between MasterCard and Coulomb is a big step ahead for all the drivers in Bay Area, allowing them easy and convenient access to EV chargers.

The ChargePoint stations will also accept its proprietary contactless payment cards. These PayPass cards or devices can be tapped on the readers located directly on the charging stations. This will contribute greatly to green transportation movement, enhancing driving experience of EV drivers too.
