Once you purchase the card, it's activated at the register, and can be used like a credit card at retailers within the U.S., which accept Visa. While the OneVanilla Prepaid Visa card can be used at leading retailers, you can't use it at ATM's to get a cash advance. Also it's not re-loadable, so once you use up of the amount on the Vanilla Visa prepaid card you will have to purchase another one.

Customers can also upgrade their Vanilla Visa card from a prepaid credit card to the MyVanilla Card, which acts like a personalized debit card. You can load this card with any amount you wish, as often as you wish. It can be re-loaded at any of the 50,000 Vanilla reload centers in the U.S.

To apply for this card you visit the MyVanilla Card website and fill out the application, or you can contact them through the toll free number and apply that way. A credit check is not part of the application process, and once you apply it will take up to 10 days to get your new Vanilla Card in the mail.

The MyVanilla Card is FDIC insured, and you can set up recurring payments to make sure you are always fully loaded. With this Vanilla debit card users can make day-to-day purchases, but they can also use it at ATM's. An interface is also set up on the Vanilla Card website so users can easily track their purchases and there are no surprises later on.

They also have a Vanilla Reward card in their portfolio, which may remind you of cards that are attached to reward programs that allow you to earn points that can be used toward trips and merchandise. However, this is not a rewards-based card - it's a card that is typically given as a reward. For instance, the Vanilla Reward card is often given by employers to employees as a gift or bonus. So while you may get one as a reward, it's important to remember that it's not a typical point based reward card.

The OneVanilla Prepaid Visa Card and the MyVanilla Card may well be attractive ways for some consumes to manage their money, while having the flexibility and security that credit and debit cards offer.
