Capital One has recently shared the news about opening its airport lounge next year. Currently, there is only one card issuer that operates airport lounges – American Express. Amex offers its customers 12 comfortable Centurion Lounges to enjoy their time in the airport before the flight. 11 of them are located in the United States and 1 in Hong Kong. There are 3 more lounges supposed to open shortly. In addition to the Centurion lounge network, Amex operates ten lounges exclusively for Platinum Card and Centurion Members internationally.
According to a Capital One official, the new lounge will appear at Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Washington D.C. There is no more reliable information for now. Still, it is rumored that the size of the lounge will total over 9,000 square meters. Again, from hearsay, the lounge amenities will more likely include dining, alcoholic beverages, a gym, work areas, showers, spa services, and a kids’ room.
Although the lounge will become the first for Capital One, it is not exactly a completely new experience for the issuer, since it already operates Capital One Cafés. These modern design locations are accessible to absolutely everyone, so you don’t have to be a Capital One member. However, holders of Capital One debit or credit cards can enjoy some special perks like a 50% discount for Peet's Coffee beverages. Visitors of the Cafés may also take pleasure in using free Wi-Fi, charging stations and ATMs, as well as attending free finance events.
Guided by the example of Capital One Cafés, we can assume that access to the new Dulles Airport lounge will be open to all comers. Most likely, those who are not clients of Capital One will be allowed to enter after paying a certain amount, as it usually happens in such cases. But only time can tell what will come out in the end.
