2 Things worth Knowing When Using Credit Cards

By on

11During difficult economic times, the need to have money reserved for certain needs that might suddenly arise cannot be overemphasized. There will be instances where we have no choice but to use our credit cards. There is definitely nothing wrong with this as long as we can determine when is the right time to use or not to use our credit cards. Here are two things to remember when using credit cards:

  1. Know very well when the situation urgently calls for the use of your credit card. Of course urgency or necessity will be defined by an individual according to the standards applicable to his/her context. However, what’s important is the delineation between spending for something you can survive without and something you need to buy now in order to avoid negative results in the future. This means differentiating between expenses out of one’s own impulsiveness (those that can be delayed for now) and those compelled by pressing needs immediately seeking relief. For instance in food, there is a difference between spending for an expensive dinner with your friends and just eating by yourself at an affordable restaurant and getting yourself energized for work again.
  2. Make an effort to settle fast the balance you are due in your credit card. This will serve the practical purpose of not incurring any interest at all for the month. Although to settle the balance fast enough sounds demanding, it will not hurt to treat credit card debts as projects to be submitted on or before the deadline. If not submitted, there are serious repercussions. Like completing a project step-by-step to beat the deadline, credit card debt payment can also be done on a series of sums of money to be paid at regular intervals. Just be sure that you also settle previous debts before the next billing period. There are a lot of ways by which this can be done. What is needed is just the extra effort.

These are just two things we can think about when using our credit cards.

Both are essentially about self-control and discipline. This means restraining ourselves from buying unnecessary things and this also requires a degree of thoughtfulness and sound judgment on our part. We now need to think about what is worth spending for and what is not. Moreover, we’re also made to act and decide in ways that are governed by rules in order to cut costs.
